Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Vanbrugh 300 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop a nationwide project that aims to broaden the awareness of Vanbrugh through special displays, free education programmes and lectures, throughout his tercentenary year in 2026.
Hats Off to Vanbrugh! Competition
To celebrate Vanbrugh300, we’re inviting young designers, makers and imaginative minds to take part in our special competition and step into his shoes.
Your Challenge
No matter where you live in Britain, take part in this fun competition to design your very own piece of wearable architecture that reflects one of Vanbrugh's incredible buildings. It could be one of the houses you've visited during VANBRUGH300 with your family, or better yet, a Vanbrugh building you've explored through photos, videos or online research. Think big. Think bold. Think Baroque!
Your hat could be: a towering dome, a dramatic façade, a miniature castle, a swirling staircase or a completely imaginative interpretation of Vanbrugh’s style. As long as it’s wearable and inspired by his architecture, it counts.
There are two age categories: 5 - 7 and 8 - 11
Prizes
Winners in each age category will not only have their designs showcased online, but they will also win a family ticket to visit one of the Vanbrugh partner sites involved in Vanbrugh300:
- Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
- Castle Howard, North Yorkshire
- Seaton Delaval hall, Northumberland
- Grimsthorpe Castle, Lincolnshire
- Stowe House, Buckinghamshire
- Kimbolton Castle, Cambridgeshire
