Marking 300 years since Sir John Vanbrugh’s death, this special tour invites you to experience Castle Howard as it was first conceived - bold, theatrical and revolutionary. Enter through the grand north doorway as 18th-century visitors once did, before exploring Staging the Baroque: Vanbrugh at Castle Howard, curated by Roz Barr Architects, which reveals the drama and ambition behind one of Britain’s most extraordinary houses
Discover how Vanbrugh, the 3rd Earl of Carlisle and Nicholas Hawksmoor shaped both house and landscape, the inspirations that informed their designs, and the immense challenges of bringing such a vision to life. The tour culminates with a rare escorted visit into the Dome and a walk through the magnificent state rooms, including the recently restored Tapestry Drawing Room.
