Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Vanbrugh 300 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop a nationwide project that aims to broaden the awareness of Vanbrugh through special displays, free education programmes and lectures, throughout his tercentenary year in 2026.
BBC Radio 4's Today show marked the launch of Vanbrugh300 on 26 March, commemorating 300 years since the death of the visionary architect and playwright Sir John Vanbrugh.
The segment explored Vanbrugh’s lasting legacy, from his dramatic Baroque masterpieces such as Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard to his influence on British cultural and architectural history.
Featuring expert insights and reflections on his bold, theatrical style, the programme highlighted how Vanbrugh’s work continues to captivate and inspire three centuries on.
