Vanbrugh300 Free Lecture Series

This VANBRUGH300 newsletter spotlights the Free Lecture Series, a nationwide programme of talks and events taking place across six major sites associated with Sir John Vanbrugh. Presented in a variety of formats – from panel discussions to in-conversation evenings – the series explores the many dimensions of Vanbrugh’s life as architect, playwright, and cultural figure, as well as the enduring legacy of his work.

The newsletter highlights individual lectures and speakers, from discussions of Vanbrugh’s architectural achievements and patron relationships to explorations of Georgian society, theatre, and political culture, including the influence of the Kit-Cat Club. It also introduces contemporary responses to Vanbrugh’s work, alongside insights from historians, designers, and heritage experts. Free to attend and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the series forms part of the wider VANBRUGH300 celebrations, encouraging audiences to engage with historic sites while discovering new perspectives on Vanbrugh’s remarkable career.
