Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Vanbrugh 300 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop a nationwide project that aims to broaden the awareness of Vanbrugh through special displays, free education programmes and lectures, throughout his tercentenary year in 2026.
Vanbrugh: From Stage to Stone
This was an academic symposium held in partnership with The Georgian Group and the Ax:son Johnson Centre for the Study of Classical Architecture, taking place at Downing College, Cambridge, on 27 March 2026.
The event formed part of the Vanbrugh300 festival. Bringing together scholars and specialists from a range of disciplines, the conference explored the impact and enduring legacy of Vanbrugh’s life and work, offering fresh insights into his achievements as playwright, architect, and cultural figure, as well as examining why his work continues to be celebrated in this tercentenary year.
We are pleased that a recording of the symposium is now available for those wishing to view - or review - the day’s discussions. It can be watched here or on The Georgian Group’s YouTube channel.
The Georgian Group would like to thank the National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting the filming of this conference.
