Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Vanbrugh 300 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop a nationwide project that aims to broaden the awareness of Vanbrugh through special displays, free education programmes and lectures, throughout his tercentenary year in 2026.
This VANBRUGH300 newsletter reflects on Sir John Vanbrugh’s enduring legacy beyond the six Partner Houses, featuring an article by Charles Saumarez Smith on why Vanbrugh continues to captivate audiences during his tercentenary year. It explores Beyond the Partner Houses, a guide to ten further examples of Vanbrugh’s architecture, and highlights Heritage Open Days at Claremont Landscape Garden and Claremont Mansion, including rare access to Vanbrugh’s Belvedere Tower. The newsletter also invites readers to the final Vanbrugh300 lecture at Seaton Delaval Hall on Vanbrugh and the Queen’s Theatre in the Haymarket, encourages them to watch the new Vanbrugh300 short film, and reminds readers to enter the Responses to Vanbrugh and Hats Off to Vanbrugh! competitions before they close.
