Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Vanbrugh 300 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop a nationwide project that aims to broaden the awareness of Vanbrugh through special displays, free education programmes and lectures, throughout his tercentenary year in 2026.
THE MAKING OF A MAVERICK
Enter Vanbrugh's World
This edition of the Vanbrugh300 newsletter focuses on “The Making of a Maverick,” examining how Sir John Vanbrugh’s early experiences, including travel, political intrigue, imprisonment, military service, and playwriting, shaped his later architectural vision and distinctive English Baroque style. Alongside the feature article, the newsletter introduces a new interactive Life & Times timeline on the Vanbrugh300 website, reports on the opening festival event and recent lectures exploring Vanbrugh’s provocative comedies, and previews upcoming exhibitions and programme highlights, including future editions centred on Blenheim Palace.
